Dr. Christiane Berth

Christiane Berth is a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) Ambizione Fellow at the University of Bern. In general, her research focuses on global economic and cultural entanglements among the fields of technology, food, consumption, development cooperation, migration, and trade, for which she has conducted research in Central America and Mexico since 2005. In 2016, Christiane Berth completed her book project and habilitation thesis “Food, politics, and consumption in Nicaragua, 1960–1993”. Prior to attending the University of Bern, she worked at the Institute of European Global Studies in Basel, the University of St. Gallen, and the Institute of Contemporary History in Hamburg. Currently, Christiane Berth investigates the social and cultural history of the telephone in Mexico.
